The World Health Organization has stated that a traffic accident occurs every 30 seconds worldwide and that more than 1.2 million people lose their lives each year. In addition, 50 million people suffer moderate or severe injuries.

When an individual loses their life as a result of a traffic accident, it leaves behind spouses, children, mothers, and fathers who may carry this unhappiness for the rest of their lives.

Worldwide, the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is observed every year on the third Sunday of November.

On this day of remembrance, relatives of traffic accident victims who must cope with the effects of fatalities or injuries share their experiences and solutions with one another.

As professionals working within this sector, we set out by asking the question, “What can we do about this?”

As traffic and driving experts, our main goal has been to reverse this trend in order to prevent more families from experiencing the devastation of losing loved ones in traffic accidents.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has standards that can help make roads safer. These standards range from basic requirements for wheels, braking systems, and road-holding capability to impact protection, child restraint systems, and ergonomics.

With the ISO 39001 Road Traffic Safety Management Systems standard published by ISO in 2012, we serve our country and our people in the field of traffic safety.

The ISO 39001 Standard has a significant impact on traffic safety by providing state-of-the-art requirements for aspects such as speed, vehicle condition, and driver awareness.

The ISO 39001 Standard specifies the requirements for a road traffic safety management system to reduce deaths and serious injuries related to road traffic accidents that an organization interacting with the road traffic system can influence.

SO 39001 requirements, in areas that an organization can control or influence, include:

The development and implementation of a Road Traffic Safety Policy,

The development of objectives and action plans that take into account legal and other requirements the organization is obliged to comply with,

Information on road safety-related factors and criteria.

The ISO 39001 Standard provides tools to help organizations reduce—and ultimately eliminate—the risk of deaths and serious injuries related to road traffic accidents.

The ISO 39001 Standard can be implemented by public and private organizations that interact with the road traffic system.

Experiences gained from around the world have shown that significant reductions in deaths and serious injuries can be achieved by adopting a holistic Safe System approach to the Road Traffic System.
